The mobile beehive

Up to 6 beehives in our box trailer? Yes, it’s possible. Yes, it makes sense. Because it makes it easy, safe and convenient to transport the bees from A to B. This is where our Humbaur HK 203015-20P comes into play. The standing height box trailer has been converted into a mobile beehive.
The large box trailer has a frame and chassis made of hot-dip galvanised steel. Solid crossbars ensure a high level of stability. The roof is fitted with a rain gutter. The doors are fitted with high-quality seals so that the inside of the tandem-axle always stays dry – so that the bees have a pleasant and, above all, safe home. The sturdy plywood side walls are 18 mm thick with a weather-resistant plastic coating, just like the roof. The high-quality labelling on the bee trailers gives them a very individual look, so the beemobile can be easily recognised from afar.

Overview of the HK 203015-20P
- Total permissible weight: 2000 kg
- Load capacity: approx. 1300 kg
- Overall dimensions: 4525 x 2026 x 2610 mm (L x W x H)
- Internal dimensions: 3040 x 1510 x 2000 mm (L x W x H)
- Load height: approx. 550 mm
With these dimensions, our box trailer is large enough to accommodate six beehives inside, on one side of the trailer. Several beehives can be lined up. Thanks to the headroom, the beekeeper can work inside while standing, making it particularly comfortable. But that’s not all: an entry aisle has been fitted to the side of the trailer. This means the bees know exactly where they have to go and can land comfortably. This allows them to enter their hive, which is attached to the inside of the tandem-axle. Naturally, the beehives are fitted in such a way that they do not slip during the journey and the bees can be transported safely. The standard LED lighting provides internal light, especially in the evening. The power for this comes from the built-in battery. This in turn is powered by the installed solar panels. This allows the beemobile to be completely self-sufficient. A large table is mounted on the right-hand side of the trailer. This allows the beekeeper to work comfortably in the bee trailer. Even a 10 litre water canister and a sink have been integrated. The bees can be transported to their new destination, depending on the harvest situation. The advantage of a mobile beehive? The bees can be transported quickly and easily. This gives the beekeeper the opportunity to harvest different types of honey. There is no need to painstakingly set up and dismantle other, non-mobile solutions.

What happens inside the beemobile?
Most of the time, the bees go about their business in peace: flying from flower to flower and pollinating them. Of course, the beekeeper regularly checks to make sure everything is okay. He or she checks the colonies and makes sure that everything is nice and clean. Whenever the beekeeper wants to change location, the bees can easily be moved with the mobile beehive. This doesn’t bother the bees at all. However, to ensure that all the bees are in the hive, transport must take place after sunset or before sunrise. The bees only leave the hive during daylight hours.
There is room for a total of six bee colonies in a trailer like this. This means that around 250 kg of honey can be produced per year, which is quite a lot. This means the bees are really busy. In winter, the trailer provides a safe home for around 60,000 bees; in summer as many as 300,000 bees.
