What is a parabolic spring?
In design terms, parabolic springs belong to the leaf spring family. While classic leaf springs have the same thickness along their entire length, parabolic springs have uneven thickness. They have thinner ends and get thicker towards the centre. This ensures approximately the same bending stress over the entire length of the parabolic spring, which provides extra driving comfort. Despite the high force applied, the trailer’s suspension remains soft and therefore safe for the load and driver.
The advantages of a parabolic spring for the customer at a glance
- Even load distribution over the entire trailer
- Optimum levelling of uneven roads – even when fully loaded
- Perfect, stable road holding
- Extra-long service life
- Particularly robust
- Degressive suspension à becomes increasingly softer as the force applied increases
- Low suspension travel, maximum comfort
